A Day in the Life of an Educator

Ma’am, Sir, Madam, Teacher…
These are how pupils/students call their educators in school. Indeed, these are very simple words yet they signify different roles and denote/connote a variety of meanings.

Everyday in the life of educators, the biggest role that they play is that of being a teacher and a facilitator in every learning session making sure that students grasp the knowledge being shared and imparted to them. As teachers in the classroom, they exude a sense of authority and empowerment enabling them to be in control of the teaching-learning process. Students look up to them as intellectually equipped people from whom they can gain new learnings. Through and from them, students learn about grammar, panitikan, calculus, scientific names, history, values, cooking, dancing among others.

Another role that educators play is that of being a parent. Away from their own homes, the school turns to be home for students. As such, educators serve as their second parents… parents who inculcate good values making sure that students be molded to be makatao, makabayan, makabansa and makakalikasan. As parents in school, educators show love, care and concern making students feel worthy and special. Giving pieces of advice makes students feel the warmth that every parent shows to his/her own children. The school, thus, turns to be a home where students feel a sense of belonging.

Educators also play the role of being a friend whom students share their heartaches and laughter with, a friend who understands and is always willing to listen. In such a role, however, the educator must bear in mind that a certain limit must be set and that educator-student relationship must prevail.

In their own homes, educators also play different roles – that of being a husband/wife, parent, lolo/lola, uncle/aunt, brother/sister and friend. Attached to such roles are a number of duties and responsibilities which oftentimes make them feel burnt out. What is amazing in educators, however, is the zest that they possess every time they enter the classroom for another learning session and render service.

With the support and guidance of the administrators, educators work hard to deliver good quality education promoting culture of excellence. They set targets and perform so that end goals are met. Their end point – the success of the students.

With all these roles identified and obligations defined, apparently, not a single day exempts an educator from working real hard in school, in the workplace or at home.

Recognizing every effort rendered by educators to achieve DepEd’s mission is a reward worth cherishing. A day specially set and reserved for them to celebrate, to be entertained, to have a day off from their daily taxing activities serves as a token of recognition, an implication of deep gratitude for services rendered and a job well-done. Receiving awards is even more heart-warming as their efforts are duly recognized boosting their morale and encouraging them to perform further.

The Educators’ Day held annually is a grand celebration of success establishing a tighter bond among San Carlos City educators. As one family in harmony, it is believed that DepEd SCC will certainly achieve its goal for its clientele, the city and the country.

Kudos to the city government headed by Hon. Joseres “Bogs” Resuello, a hardworking and dedicated mayor and to the SDO led by Schools Division Superintendent, Dr. Sheila Marie A. Primicias, an action-oriented and equally hardworking and dedicated leader with great love for SCC Division making it attain remarkable achievements for spearheading Educators’ Day 2018. A salute is likewise given to all SCC educators!
