DA-BAR Team Introduces Hydroponics/Aquaponics, Edible Landscaping to ASP/BE Coordinators


The Department of Agriculture-Bureau of Agricultural Research (DA-BAR) representatives from UP Los Banos (UPLB) and from Central Luzon State University (CLSU) introduced Hydroponics/Aquaponics & Edible Landscaping to ASP/BE Coordinators during a Seminar on Hydroponics & Aquaponics for sustainable and Eco-friendly School held on April 12, 2018 at the Division Conference Hall.

The seminar aimed to 1) Introduce innovative & cutting edge technology to new gardening; 2) San Carlos City Division to be a pilot division in Pangasinan to showcase hydroponics & aquaponics in schools; and 3) Equip schools with knowledge for sustainable source or extra income and food for feeding program.





Lectures on the benefits of Hydroponics and Aquaponics plus Videos on how-to-do your own hydroponics/aquaponics were also shared to the participants in the morning. In the afternoon session, Edible Landscaping was highlighted. Some features of the lecture were: 1) Components of Edible Landscaping (EL); 2) The EL Triangle; 3) Samples of EL from private and public adopters. Workshop by district and presentation of outputs followed after the lecture. Participants were awarded certificates and CDs during the closing program.

This seminar was conducted in preparation for the Brigada Eskwela wherein schools are expected to adopt or implement hydroponics/aquaponics and Edible Landscaping.

Prior to this, school heads attended a seminar on Aquaponics and Hydroponics conducted by the Bureau of Agricultural Research (DA-Main Office) on February 13, 2018 at the Siringan Sanctuary Conference Hall, Central I Elementary School.
