The event was in compliance to Republic Act 10871: Basic Life Support Training in School Act which states in Section 3 that it shall be the duty of all public and private basic education schools operating nationwide to provide their students with basic life support training through the use of psychomotor training and that basic education schools shall incorporate basic life support training as part of the schools’ comprehensive health and physical education curriculum.
SDS Primicias reiterated that CPR forms part of the disaster preparedness program and thus, it is but imperative that teachers are equipped with basic knowledge on how to administer CPR. She also added that knowledge on CPR cannot only save the lives of the teachers and students, but also their very own family members.
Dr. Nanette R. Rey, President of Philippine Heart Association, had given importance about the PHA FitHeart Minute and 1 minute pocket exercises which can be done in the workplace of the teachers. The four easy moves such as squats, jumping jacks, push ups and forward lunges right and left were demonstrated by Mr. Marlon B. Ecol, Public Schools District Supervisor.
Dr. Orly Bugarin, guest from Bataan, and his company, instructed the teachers from 75 schools on how to do the Hands-Only CPR and AED. He had given emphasis on the 3Cs- check, call and compress or the ABC- airing, breathing and compression in saving lives.
The training was attended by the San Carlos City teachers and Division Office personnel who were taught about the basic steps in Hands Only CPR and were assisted by doctors as they performed proper chest compression on the dummies provided.
