SDO SCC extends I READ Program thru Phase 2 Workshop

SAN CARLOS CITY, Pangasinan – To intensify the institutionalization of the I READ Program among the schools, the Schools Division Office (SDO) through the Curriculum Implementation Division (CID) conducted the I READ Project Phase 2 Activity on May 10 at the Division Conference Hall.

In committed response to the improvement, there were 66 participants in this phase activity. Among them were 30 school administrators, 10 district reading coordinators, 20 registered key English teachers and 6 learning facilitators.

Dr. Lilibeth A. Magtang, Education Program Supervisor in English, is the proponent of the institutionalized project. She presented to all participants the coign of vantage of the program since Phase 1 Activity last October 2017 and stressed the importance of School Learning Action Cell (SLAC) in improving the quality of instruction.

Intensified Reading Enhancement and Advancement (I READ) Project is a program that addresses the reading difficulties of the learners more particularly in the first key stage. The program had been extended to the other key stages in order to improve the reading ability of all the learners.

There are four key stages namely Kinder-Grade 3, Grades 4-6, Grades 7-10 and Grades 11-12. Phase 1 Activity targeted before the first key stage only but this time, the second phase is extended in all stages.

“One way to improve the reading ability of learners is to have a whole year SLAC plan in reading so that reading difficulties identified will be addressed properly,” said Dr. Magtang.

The SLAC Plan includes a schedule wherein reading difficulties are identified for discussion. In the SLAC, small groups of teachers convene for about 1 to 2 hours in order to discuss and find solutions to identified problems.

All the participants in the activity were grouped to make a SLAC plan and presented their works.
